Visitors dream big under blue skies at Open Day
Thousands of visitors have explored the 2026 QUT Open Day on Sunday, under perfect blue skies, to learn more about the courses and uni experiences that could fuel their futures.
The day was held across Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove campuses in inner Brisbane, with QUT staff, students and alumni out in force to provide advice and share career inspiration.
Some of the biggest crowds were found at Gardens Theatre at Gardens Point campus, where five popular engineering seminars showcased technology including the QUTies – custom-programmed humanoid robots that displayed their amazing agility by dancing on stage for hyped-up audiences.
The Unitree G1 robots are part of an ongoing research program at the QUT Centre for Robotics into the way humanoids function in a world built for people and how they can better support and enable human endeavour.
Kelvin Grove campus also had plenty of interactive technology on show for Open Day visitors, providing insights into the world-class facilities used by students during their degrees.
Popular open houses included the virtual production studio, the H2 wet lab, and the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy.
Information tents, campus tours and hands-on experiences in labs and health training facilities were all popular attractions at Open Day.
Information tents, seminars and tours across both campuses were run with the help of more than 400 dedicated QUT student ambassadors – current QUT students who share their experiences with school students all year during events like Open Day and school visits.
Student ambassador and double degree student Jemma Wagner (pictured right) featured on Open Day billboards and the official program and was a recognisable face around Gardens Point on Sunday.
She spoke at science panels and answered questions at the science tent about degrees, uni life and career possibilities.
Jemma is on track to graduate at the end of this year with her Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science) and Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication).
"It's an exciting milestone, and I'm really looking forward to transitioning into the next phase of my career," she said.
"I am passionate about science communication and policy, so this combination of degrees was the perfect way to develop and blend these skills.
"As a hands-on learner, I've really appreciated QUT's focus on practical, real-world learning.
"It has given me valuable industry experience, helped me build professional connections, and developed the skills and confidence to transition into my career."
