Well hi! QUT welcomes new students for 2026
From clubs on campus and cute critters, to pancakes, performers and pride – the 2026 QUT Welcome Week had something for everyone when the university’s first-year students arrived.
The dual-campus festival attracted thousands of new students to Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove last week, with experienced students and staff on hand to help them explore QUT, find out more about their courses and get a head start on their uni social life.

QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil (pictured above centre) kicked off the week with a popular pancake breakfast at Gardens Point campus on Monday.

The university’s wide range of clubs and societies were out in force, including stalls featuring cultural, social, and sporting groups.
Lots of first-years also joined campus tours to get to know their new campus and its range of facilities.

Over at Kelvin Grove, there were more pancakes and stalls during the week, along with music performances, Australian wildlife educational displays, coffee catch-ups and bubble tea sessions.

Student clubs set up outside A Block, including QUT Cheer and Dance with their display of national champion trophies, Get Psyched with their positive vibes, and QUT Cliffhangers with their climbing gear.

This week, new QUT students can also collect their free first-years t-shirt from the QUT Supply shop at Gardens Point or Kelvin Grove.
The 2026 edition of the annual limited-edition tee features a fun ‘Ibis Intellects’ design created by a QUT business and design student.

QUT has a range of support services available year-round for new and continuing students, including regional students, international students and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Check out the New to QUT page for more information and drop in to see the friendly HiQ teams at the Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove libraries.
New students can also join the QUT First Years Facebook community.
