Women in Engineering Scholarship

You have to be applying for a QUT course to apply for this scholarship.

Eligibility details

You must:

  • be female
  • have completed Year 12 (or a gap year) in 2011
  • apply for the Bachelor of Engineering (EN40) course or an Engineering double degree course at QUT
  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder.

What you receive

You'll receive:

  • $6,000 ($3,000 per year for 2 years)

This will be paid as follows:

  • in two equal instalments at the commencement of the applicable scholarship year
  • the first instalment after the census date of Semester 1 2012, once we've confirmed your enrolment in the Bachelor of Engineering
  • the second instalment after the census date of Semester 1 2013, once we've confirmed your continued full-time enrolment in the Bachelor Engineering.

We will award 10 Women in Engineering Scholarships in 2012.

How to apply

The Women in Engineering application form (PDF file, 358.71 KB) has all the details on how to apply.

You must compose a personal statement that:

  • outlines your extra-curricular activities, community service and leadership experience.
  • demonstrates a knowledge of, and interest in, engineering as a profession.
  • should be 2-3 typed pages.

The statement should answer the following questions:

  • What do you know about engineering and why have you decided to study engineering?
  • What will you do to support women in engineering? This may be things that you would do while you are at university or things you would plan on doing once you have graduated and entered the profession.
  • Please give an example of an experience that developed your leadership skills. This may be from school, an extracurricular activity or a community group. What did you learn from this experience?
  • What do you consider has been your greatest achievement, and why? What did you learn from this experience?
  • Do you participate in any cultural, sporting, youth or community groups or activities? Tell us about your involvement in these activities and what you have achieved or learnt from your participation in these activities.
  • Why did you apply for the Women in Engineering Scholarship? Why do you think you should be considered for this scholarship?

You must include:

  • any further details or relevant documentation which addresses or supports the criteria of the Women in Engineering Scholarship.
  • a written reference from at least one referee.

We won't consider incomplete or incorrectly formatted applications.

To apply you need to:

  • apply through QTAC for the Bachelor of Engineering (EN40)
  • complete the scholarship application form
  • sign the declaration
  • attach your personal statement and any other necessary documentation. Do not send original versions of your documents, as we won't be able to return them.

Submit your application, preferably by email, to the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering External Relations Portfolio.

What happens next

A selection panel will:

  • assess the applications
  • award the scholarships based on evidence of outstanding participation in extra-curricular activities and leadership.

There are no interviews for this scholarship.

If you're successful, we'll contact you in early January.

If you're not successful, we'll notify you by mail.

Although you may have been successful in your scholarship application, this does not mean that you're automatically accepted into the Bachelor of Engineering. You must still be successful in your QTAC application.

Conditions

You must:

  • be enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Engineering (EN40) or Engineering double degree course at QUT.

You can't:

  • defer your enrolment
  • hold another QUT Vice-Chancellor or Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering (or Science and Engineering Faculty) scholarship
  • hold the Women in Engineering Scholarship.
