QUT Entry Bonus Scheme
The QUT Entry Bonus Scheme applies to current Year 12 students and includes:
- OP eligible and OP ineligible students from Queensland
- Students completing Year 12 studies in other Australian states
- Students completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma in Australia
- International students completing Year 12 studies in Australia
- Australian citizens completing an approved overseas Senior Secondary program assessed as being equivalent to Queensland Senior applying for entry to QUT.
Engineering Technology
QUT is taking the initiative in responding to the national shortage of engineers by making courses more accessible to students. The University has decided to award two bonus QTAC ranks for students who successfully complete Engineering Technology in secondary school and apply to start a Bachelor of Engineering at QUT. The bonus ranks are part of a larger QUT program to increase the appeal of engineering that includes:
- Providing access to all nine QUT Engineering specialisations through a single QTAC entry point
- Preparing students to make an informed choice about their engineering speciality through a common first year
- Opportunities for students to gain practical experience and engage with industry
- Access to high-value industry-sponsored scholarships.
Maths C and LOTE
To support Australia-wide initiatives to encourage students to study advanced mathematics and languages, QUT will offer two bonus QTAC ranks for Maths C and one Language other than English (LOTE) subject for students applying to all QUT courses, including Engineering, where academic achievement is the primary criterion for selection.
University Subjects
QUT will also award one bonus QTAC rank to students who, while at school, successfully complete one or more university-level subjects at any Australian university.

How will the QUT Entry Bonus be applied
The entry bonus is added to the rank equivalent of the Queensland OP, or to the rank assigned to other year 12 programs. This rank is on a 1 to 99 scale. For example; if you achieve an OP7 and we determine your rank equivalent is 89 and you are eligible for six QTAC bonus points, your new rank will now be 95, the estimated equivalent of an OP4. The entry bonus will be allocated just prior to the January QTAC offer rounds.
The entry bonus is not used in calculations to determine academic eligibility for QUT University scholarships or Deans Scholars Programs. However, the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering will use the completion of Engineering Technology as an additional criterion for determining Deans Scholars recipients.
Frequently asked questions:
- Q. I have completed less than four semester units in one of the eligible subjects, will I still get the bonus points?
- A. No. To be eligible for the bonus, you must have completed four semester units of Sound Achievement or better in one of the eligible subjects.
- Q. I have done two LOTE subjects, will I get 4 bonus points?
- A. Bonus points for each subject area are maximums i.e two points for one or more language subjects completed, not two points for each subject if more than one has been completed.
- Q. How will I know that the entry bonus has been applied?
- A. QTAC will calculate your entry bonus and make it available to QUT prior to the main offer round in January.
- Q. I have not done Maths C. Are there equivalent mathematics subjects that can be considered?
- A. Yes. QUT will consider equivalent subjects including those from all Australian states and the International Baccalaureate:

- Q. I am studying Engineering Studies in high school in New South Wales. Is this equivalent to the Engineering Technology subject?
- A. Yes. If you successfully complete the subject Engineering Studies in secondary school and then apply to start a Bachelor of Engineering at QUT, you will be awarded two bonus QTAC ranks.
- Q. If I take a gap year after completing my senior studies, will I be eligible for the entry bonus in future admissions periods?
- A. Bonus points will only be considered for the admission period immediately following completion of your Year 12 studies. QUT allows you to defer your offer in most courses. We encourage you to apply and receive an offer taking advantage of the entry bonus. You can then defer this offer and commence studies in the following year.
- Q. I will not be receiving an OP, will I be eligible for the entry bonus?
- A. Yes the entry bonus is available to OP ineligible students who have successfully completed the required subjects.
- Q. Can I be considered for the Elite Athlete Scheme and the bonus scheme?
- A. Yes
- Q. How do I apply?
- A. There is no extra application process other than for you to complete your QTAC application, and include any details of university studies undertaken or in progress, and follow any instructions provided in the QTAC application.
- Q. How will QUT know if I have successfully completed a university subject?
- A. If you have provided the necessary details with your QTAC application, QTAC will make the details available to QUT for the allocation of the entry bonus.
- Q. Will the QUT Entry Bonus apply to all QUT courses?
- A. The Scheme will apply to all courses offered in the January and later rounds where academic achievement is the primary criterion for selection.
- Q. What is the maximum number of points I can receive from the QUT Entry Bonus Scheme?
- A. If you qualify for bonus points in all of the subject areas you can receive the maximum 7 bonus points.
- Q. I am not a current Year 12 student, or an Australian citizen completing an approved overseas Senior Secondary program assessed as being equivalent to Queensland Senior. Am I eligible for the Bonus Scheme?
- A. The QUT Entry Bonus Scheme will not be applied retrospectively. Only current Year 12 students and Australian citizens completing an approved overseas Senior Secondary program assessed as being equivalent to Queensland Senior will be eligible.
