Design of Computer Systems (IFB112) focuses on how modern computer systems work, how they are structured, and how they operate.

This unit is particularly useful if you're thinking about studying:

  • information technology
  • computer science
  • robotics
  • aerospace
  • electrical engineering
  • technology and business.

This unit is only available to female students as an affirmative action to increase female participation in STEM.

Overview

  • Using Raspberry Pi computers (given to you at orientation) you will build your own small computer system.
  • Your learning will be guided through exercises involving research and practical problem solving using different computer technologies.
  • You will work as a group and cover the whole unit assessment, receiving progressive feedback on your practical exercises, further investigation research and mini-projects.

Learning objectives

  • Understand different aspects of computer technology fundamentals.
  • Design, build and configure basic computer systems.
  • Develop confidence in asking your tutor questions and presenting your ideas in front of a class.
  • Develop critical thinking skills which are important for all university degrees.
