About the scholarship

This PhD project will contribute to the development and optimisation of a Paediatric Post-Sepsis Model of Care that supports and improves outcomes for children and their families in the weeks, months, and years following this devastating illness. Despite increasing recognition of the long-term sequelae of paediatric sepsis—encompassing physical, neurocognitive, emotional, and social impacts—follow-up care remains fragmented and inconsistent across healthcare systems. Our program is developing a comprehensive, consumer-informed, and scalable model of care to address this gap. The PhD research should add value to the existing grant, and may explore a supplementary area, including but not limited to:

  • Multimorbidity post-sepsis
  • Health literacy and navigation in post-sepsis care
  • Digital tools and technology-enabled follow-up
  • Nurse-led models of care

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative environment under the supervision of Professor Debbie Long, with opportunities to engage with leading clinicians, consumer advocates, policymakers, and health service researchers through the Faculty of Health’s research centres and affiliated partners.
