What you'll receive
You'll receive a scholarship valued at $10,000. It is paid in two instalments (semester 1 and 2) in one year.
Urban Utilities may offer the recipient work experience or vacation employment for any period during the period in which the recipient holds the Scholarship, as determined by Urban Utilities in consultation with the recipient.
Eligibility
To be eligible for The Urban Utilities Graham Thomsen Scholarship, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a permanent resident
- be a third year QUT student undertaking full-time study in any relevant engineering degree (completed 192 credit points if in a single degree and 288 credit points for a double degree) in one of these courses:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil and Construction)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil and Environmental)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)/Bachelor of Mathematics
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)/Bachelor of Information Technology
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)/Bachelor of Science
- Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)
- have achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.5 or above.

What happens next?
Assessment will be based on a combination of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership skills and qualities, and demonstrated interest and aspirations in water conservation as a chosen profession.
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in 2024.

About the scholarship
The purpose of The Urban Utilities Graham Thomsen Scholarship is to honour the memory of former Urban Utilities board member Graham Thomsen, and his lifelong commitment to engineering and the water sector.
Graham Thomsen was committed to environmental sustainability and Urban Utilities being a centre of learning excellence. This scholarship will support third year engineering students who have a passion for water conservation and management.
The Scholarship was established in 2023 and is maintained by an annual gift from Urban Utilities.
