What you'll receive

A scholarship valued at $10,000 in your first year of study in a science single or double degree.

The scholarship will be paid as a stipend of $5,000 after the HECS-HELP census date in your first and second semester of study, as long as you have an active enrolment and meet all the scholarship conditions.

Faculty of Science excellence Scholarship recipients will receive automatic membership into QUT's College of Excellence.

Eligibility

You must:

  • be graduating Year 12 in 2025, or have graduated Year 12 in 2024
  • be starting university for the first time in 2026
  • have not undertaken/commenced any tertiary study, other than studies in special university programs designed for secondary school students (e.g. START QUT)
  • have applied for a tertiary place through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) and received a QUT offer in your first preference
  • have achieved a minimum unadjusted Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 98.00 or a minimum unadjusted selection rank of 98.00 for an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma to be considered.
  • have placed one of the eligible courses as your first preference on your QTAC application at the time of the main December and main January admissions offer rounds:
    • DS01 Bachelor of Data Science
    • IN01 Bachelor of Information Technology
    • IN05 Bachelor of Games and Interactive Environments
    • MS01 Bachelor of Mathematics
    • ST01 Bachelor of Science
    • ST20 Bachelor of Science Advance (Honours)
    • Double degrees are eligible only if both components are within the Faculty of Science. Double degrees that include a course outside the Faculty of Science are not eligible.

You must also be one of the following:

  • an Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder
  • an Australian Permanent Resident or New Zealand citizen or international student who has completed the Australian Year 12 curriculum in Australia

Faculty quotas apply to this program. Scholarship offers will be made in rank order starting with highest eligible ATAR recipients first.

How to apply

Faculty of Science Excellence Scholarship offers will be made between December and January 2026.

There is no scholarship application process for this program. All eligible students who complete a QTAC application in line with QTAC key dates, listing a QUT Science single or double degree at their first preference, and who do not accept any other merit scholarship at QUT, will be considered for a Faculty of Science Excellence Scholarship offer.

Quotas apply. The Faculty of Science reserves the right to use discretion to balance the offers made across the discipline and degree combinations.

Other scholarships at QUT may require you to complete a separate application to be considered.

What happens next?

Data from both December and January QTAC offer rounds may be used to fill the scholarship quota.

Only students who are successful in being offered a scholarship are notified.

Conditions

To keep your scholarship, you must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 and passes in all units for the duration of the scholarship.

You can:

  • be enrolled either full-time or part-time
  • take a leave of absence for up to one year but only after you have completed your first two teaching periods (one year). You won't receive scholarship payments during periods of leave.

You can't:

  • undertake university study elsewhere, and be resulted for same, prior to commencing at QUT on this scholarship
  • defer your scholarship
  • hold any other academic scholarships; Equity Scholarships are allowed. If you have any questions about holding other scholarships, contact the QUT Scholarships team.
