Overview

Smart use of rich data sets and state-of-the-art models in a central framework provides opportunities to address problems that were previously out of reach. This is particularly true in managing and responding to flood scenarios where an integrated platform can gather forecasted and measured weather and streamflow data and use those data in foresting systems, enabling an integrated visualisation platform for data sharing and real-time decision making.

The water engineering research team is developing analytical and visualisation frameworks that can support an integrated flood foresting platform. This project aims to develop a web platform that can display real time rainfall and water level data and use them in near real time hydrologic and hydraulic models.

Research activities

The student will work on developing and improving the web platform and underlying analytical programs supporting the web platform. This will include Python programming and/or developing hydrology or hydraulic models depending on the student's experience.

Outcomes

Improved water living lab web portal.

Skills and experience

Experience in one or more areas of Python programming, web development, GIS tools and hydrologic/hydraulic monellin (Completion of EGH471).
