Overview

Ben White is interested in supervising PhD students in the area of voluntary assisted dying. Voluntary assisted dying is now legal in Victoria with Western Australia's law due to commence in mid-2021. Other Australian states look set to follow with a Queensland Parliamentary Committee recommending reform and Bills regularly introduced into other state parliaments. These new laws and their implementation provide fertile ground for PhD research. The Australian Centre for Health Law Research is undertaking a program of research looking at the law, ethics, policy and practice of voluntary assisted dying laws in Australia and internationally. In particular, Professor Ben White, with Professor Lindy Willmott and Dr Eliana Close, will be undertaking a 4-year Australian Research Council Future Fellowship into the optimal regulation of voluntary assisted dying in Australia, Canada and Belgium. We invite expressions of interest in undertaking a PhD as part of this project.
