Overview

Next-generation (next-gen) entrepreneurs are described as people who operate solely in online environments (i.e. via the internet). The internet and mobile technologies have profoundly impacted the ways in which business is conducted, yet little is known about this new type of business environment. There has been considerable research into entrepreneurs who operate largely in physical 'bricks and mortar' settings, however the literature is limited in providing insight into entrepreneurs who operate solely in online environments.

We know that emotions influence the entrepreneurial process from inception to demise however we don't understand the emotional experience for entrepreneurs who have no tangible business and operate exclusively in the virtual world.

Research activities

You will conduct primary research into the emotional experience of next-gen entrepreneurs in Australia or overseas and identify the:

  • basic emotions experienced
  • emotional regulation process used by entrepreneurs
  • effect of the emotional experience on personal coping and business success.

Funding for the data collection will be sought through grant applications to supplement the funds provided by the QUT Business School for masters and PhD research, however it is not guaranteed.

Skills and experience

To be considered for this research opportunity you will have:

  • an interest in international entrepreneurship and emotions-based research
  • strong skills in qualitative research
  • good communication and academic writing skills.
