Overview

Object-Centric Process Mining (OCPM) is an emerging paradigm in process analytics that addresses the limitations of traditional process mining by enabling the analysis of complex, multi-entity business processes. Unlike conventional approaches that focus on a single case notion (e.g., an order or a patient), OCPM allows for the simultaneous tracking and analysis of multiple interacting objects—such as orders, customers, products, and invoices—within a unified process model.

This research project explores the theoretical foundations, algorithmic developments, and practical applications of OCPM. It aims to develop methodologies and tools that can extract, visualise, and analyse object-centric event logs to uncover rich, interconnected process behavior. The project may also investigate how OCPM can enhance process transparency, compliance monitoring, and performance optimisation in real-world scenarios.

Research activities

  • Review academic literature on object-centric process mining and event logs
  • Analyse real-world event data from enterprise systems
  • Develop and test algorithms for object-centric process discovery, conformance checking, and enhancement.
  • Build tools or prototypes that visualise object-centric models and support interactive analysis.
  • Conduct experiments to evaluate the performance and accuracy of object-centric mining techniques.
  • Document findings and contribute to research publications or conference presentations.

Outcomes

  • A set of validated algorithms and models for object-centric process analysis.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals or conferences.
  • Practical recommendations for industry adoption of object-centric mining techniques.

Skills and experience

  • Preliminary knowledge of process mining and event logs
  • Programming standalone or web-based applications
  • Time management skills to deliver outcomes within a specific time frame
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
