Overview

This research aims to transform how organisations improve business processes by integrating artificial intelligence with real-time data. Existing process redesign approaches are often static, retrospective, and reliant on manual analysis. While process mining is commonly used to extract insights from historical data, these methods rarely incorporate AI models to support continuous, real-time process adaptation. As a result, they fall short of enabling intelligent, self-adaptive process management.

This research addresses these limitations by proposing an AI-assisted, self-adaptive framework that combines historical and real-time data with machine learning and prescriptive algorithms. The goal is to enable continuous monitoring, automated recommendations, and real-time process adjustments—transforming redesign from a one-time effort into an ongoing, adaptive learning cycle.

Research activities

This project will involve one or more of the following activities depending on the scope:

  • review literature on AI in business process management and digital transformation
  • develop design objectives for a proactive, continuous process redesign approach that integrates AI intelligence and domain expertise
  • develop an AI-driven prescriptive model for process redesign
  • evaluate the developed approaches and the open-source prototype through experiments with real-world data sets in collaboration with experts
  • communicate research outcomes through high-quality publications and industry presentations

Outcomes

The prospective outcomes depend on the scope of the project and may include:

  • literature review,
  • a validated AI-driven process redesign framework,
  • academic publications and practical guidelines for industry adoption.

Skills and experience

This project needs one or more of the following skills:

  • preliminary knowledge of process mining and software development
  • programming standalone or web-based applications
  • time management skills to deliver outcomes within a specific time frame
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
