What's the best way to help your high schooler get into university and survive the transition?

To answer that question, QUT will hold a parent information seminar on May 1 at its Kelvin Grove campus from 6pm.

The evening is aimed at parents of senior high school students across Brisbane, who are encouraged to come along with their children.

It will include information on making course and career decisions, gaining entry into uni, making the transition from school, study costs and financial support, and other available resources.

QUT's Sarah Griinke, who will be presenting on the night, said the event had received great feedback from parents who had attended previous seminars.

"Parents tell us that the evening really helps to open up a conversation with their son or daughter about their options and career decisions," she said.

"Going to university is a big change from school and it's natural to have lots of questions - this is the place to ask them.

"In addition to QUT staff, we'll have student ambassadors present who can chat to parents and their sons and daughters about university life."

Parents can also stay in touch with QUT by following a special uni blog for parents - http://blogs.qut.edu.au/parents/
