Can I get into the Executive MBA without an undergraduate degree?
A traditional undergraduate or postgraduate degree isn’t the only way to begin your MBA journey. At QUT Business School, we recognise the value of professional experience and other qualifications. That’s why we offer multiple entry pathways into our programs.
Whether you have no formal study experience or have completed studies short of an undergraduate degree, you may still qualify for entry. Three common pathways into the QUT Executive MBA include:
| Graduate Certificates | Public Sector Management Program (PSMP) | Professional Experience |
|---|---|---|
Depending on the Graduate Certificate, you may be eligible for entry into the Executive MBA program and receive advanced standing. This pathway is ideal for individuals who may not have formal study experience but are eager to pursue postgraduate study. | Tailored for mid-level managers in the public sector, the PSMP is designed to strengthen managerial and leadership capability. Upon completion, you'll graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Business (Public Sector Management), providing a direct pathway into the Executive MBA. | Established in your career but have no formal qualifications? You can still begin your MBA journey alongside your peers through our Executive Graduate Certificate in Business Administration. By completing eight units with a minimum grade point average of 4.5, you can seamlessly transition into the QUT Executive MBA, earning two qualifications in the time it typically takes to complete one. |
For more information on eligibility and advanced standing, please contact the MBA Program Manager.
Do I need to commit to the full Executive MBA from the beginning?
No — the QUT Executive MBA offers flexible study pathways with multiple entry and exit points designed to support your career goals and changing circumstances.
Many students begin their journey with a Graduate Certificate, which consists of eight units and makes up one-third of the full Executive MBA. Executive Graduate Certificate students learn in tandem with Executive MBA peers, engaging with the same units, content, and assessments. From there, you can continue seamlessly into the full Executive MBA.
We also offer the option to exit partway through the program with a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, ensuring you still graduate with a recognised qualification if your circumstances change.
Stages of the Executive MBA

The Executive MBA is designed as a progressive pathway, with credit points accumulating at each stage. The 144 credit points required for the Executive MBA include those completed through the Executive Graduate Certificate in Business Administration and Executive Graduate Diploma in Business Administration.
*The Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GS41) is an early exit option, not a standalone program. If you complete 96 credit points in the QUT Executive MBA, you can graduate with this recognised qualification.
How is the QUT Executive MBA program structured?
The QUT Executive MBA combines 17 core units with elective study, allowing you to tailor the program to your career goals and interests.
Core units focus on strategic leadership, innovation and business transformation, followed by elective units within your chosen concentration. Each unit is delivered in a focused, six-credit-point format, allowing you to engage with a broader range of contemporary business topics and build diverse executive capabilities throughout the program.
To complete the program, you’ll complete a capstone unit where you’ll apply your learning to a real-world business challenge or project.
