Student Catchment Immersion Program
The Student Catchment Immersion Program (SCIP) is a co-curricular activity that provides the opportunity for QUT science students to learn about the local environment and the role of Brisbane catchment groups. Since 2016, the program has connected students with community-based catchment groups to learn about preservation and restoration of these important urban ecosystems.
The program combines a reflective workshop (concerning local place and identity, understanding the local environment, and leadership for the environment) with hands-on volunteer experiences in four different catchment groups in Brisbane. Through these activities students gain knowledge of the way catchment groups operate and are encouraged to continue volunteering in the local catchments, both in on-the-ground projects and at a governance level.
