Supporting your transition from service to study The Veterans Academic Success Program (VASP) supports Australian Defence Force veterans as you move from military to university life. We recognise the unique knowledge, skills, and perspectives you bring, and are committed to helping you succeed at QUT.

Download this checklist to guide you through the stages of application and enrolment, commencement of studies, and setting up for success at QUT. This checklist can also be used to support the process of separating from the military and transitioning into university.

Entry and enrolment

Your service matters. Through Advanced Standing (credit), QUT can assess your military training and experience and potentially shorten your degree . Advanced Standing (credit) can be awarded for formal qualifications, professional experience, and military training.

You will need to provide documentation to support your application, such as the following:

  • Military Service Record (PMKeyS Long) or official Certificate of Service
  • completed qualifications (AQF diplomas, academic transcripts)
  • additional documentation: Performance Appraisal Report (PAR), Duty Statement, letter from superiors, commendations.

VASP offers tailored academic support, including one-on-one coaching, personalised action plans, academic skills workshops, and flexible online resources. These services are designed to fit around work, family and service commitments, helping you succeed in your studies.

Health and wellbeing

Your wellbeing is a priority. Access QUT counselling and health services, including exercise physiology and psychology. Register for an Access Equity Plan to receive adjustments that enable you to study effectively if living with a disability, injury or health condition.
