Approaches from different schools of counselling will be profiled and examined including Psychoanalytic, Cognitive/Behavioural, Humanistic, Systemic and Post-Structuralist. Through a consideration of own values and an exploration of epistemologies, students are invited to consider and develop their own framework for practice. Emphasis will also be placed on the importance of the therapeutic relationship and the micro skills students will require to develop relationships in their future practice. With a recognition of the importance of self, students will be introduced to the practice of reflection and will be invited to consider and review existing ideas and beliefs and how these align with the different approaches to counselling.","title-full":"PYB208 Counselling Theory and Practice 1","title-short":"Counselling Theory and Practice 1","url":{"current":"https://qutvirtual4.qut.edu.au/group/student/enrolment/units/unit?unitCode=PYB208&year=2022","prospective":"https://www.qut.edu.au/study/unit?unitCode=PYB208","timetable":"https://qutvirtual3.qut.edu.au/qvpublic/ttab_unit_search_p.process_teach_period_search?p_unit_cd=PYB208"},"year":2022,"years":[2022]}
