The full program, campus maps, and transport and shuttle bus information are available online.
Visitors can also prep for the day with the Open Day Planner and create their own personalised program.
Dozens of QUT students and graduates will be available to talk to visitors one-on-one at Open Day and share their own uni experiences.
They’ll include biomedical science graduate Tabitha Chelliah, psychology and law student Luke Gilbert, education student Ben McLeish, and IT and engineering student Joshua Ho (all pictured above, clockwise from top left).
We asked them about their uni experiences and what they’ll be doing at Open Day.

Ben McLeish
Bachelor of Education student
What will you be doing at Open Day?
“I'll be at the teaching and education tent at Kelvin Grove. I'll be advising visitors about what studying education at QUT entails, including details about the course, placements, and student life!”
Why did you choose to study education at QUT?
“In high school, I was lucky to be surrounded by inspiring teachers. After doing tutoring and speaking with them, I realised teaching could be a career I’d genuinely enjoy. I explored different unis and attended events where I talked with education students and lecturers. QUT stood out due to its first-year teaching placement and the welcoming community at Open Day and TSXPO.”
What uni clubs/societies and activities are you part of?
“I’m part of QUT’s College of Excellence, which has provided incredible professional development opportunities and helped me build a strong network. It’s also where I’ve met many of my closest friends – people I now go on camping trips with and enjoy life outside of uni. I’ve also joined faculty and social clubs, which have been fantastic for meeting new people and getting involved in uni life.”
What internships or work opportunities have you had through uni?
“I’ve completed an in-school placement, which was a great chance to apply what I’d learned in class to a real-world setting. I also started working as a teacher's aide, a role I found through the QUT Education community. Another highlight was a QUT-organised trip to Mount Isa, where we visited local schools and connected with teachers. This has confirmed that living in a regional community is something I see in my future, and I hope to pursue one of my future placements in a place like Mount Isa.”
Any advice for school leavers?
“Say yes to EVERY opportunity and step outside your comfort zone. University is so much more enjoyable when you get involved, as you get to meet new people and discover new interests!”

Luke Gilbert
Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) / Bachelor of Laws (Honours) student
What will you be doing at Open Day?
“I will be conducting campus tours of the beautiful Gardens Point Campus in the heart of Brisbane City. I’ll be providing information about the different buildings and all the amazing things they have to offer. I am super excited to share my passion and appreciation for the campus.”
Why did you choose to study psychology and law at QUT?
“Growing up in Bundaberg, I always wanted to move to the city to pursue university. In high school we were given the opportunity to travel to Brisbane and have an on-campus experience with QUT. The faculty staff and student ambassadors were all so approachable and kind – it made me feel like I belonged. From a young age I had a passion to help others and create change in my community. QUT had a double degree in psychology and law, so it was the perfect combination for me.”
What uni clubs/societies and activities are you part of?
“I’ve been involved in the law society and psychology society, and I also became a QUT Connect volunteer to help first-year students. Being a part of these communities has allowed me to build long-lasting friendships, connections with industry professionals, and my self-confidence.”
What internships or work opportunities have you had through uni?
“I’ve completed internships at major law firms, including Deloitte and Lander & Rogers, which have helped me develop practical legal skills and industry connections. I have also become a QUT Student Ambassador, which I love because it allows me to give back to the university community that has given me so much.”
Any advice for school leavers?
“Stay open-minded and embrace every opportunity, even if it feels outside your comfort zone. University is about more than just study. Get involved, ask questions, build connections and don’t be afraid to reach out for help when you need it. Also remember that everyone is figuring it out as they go, so back yourself and trust that you’ll grow so much along the way!”

Tabitha Chelliah
Bachelor of Biomedical Science graduate
Postgraduate researcher
Sessional academic
What will you be doing at Open Day?
“I will be speaking at the biomedical sciences seminars about my student experience, including my journey to QUT and my course highlights, and my advice to prospective students. I will also be assisting with the Q Block Open House lab tours at Gardens Point Campus.”
Why did you choose to study biomedical science at QUT?
“I chose biomedical science for its flexibility and the chance to explore different areas, and found a passion for anatomy and physiology. I’m now studying a Master of Philosophy, aiming to improve paediatric cardiac health by developing growth standards for the aortic and pulmonary valves.”
What real-world experiences did you get at uni that helped your career?
“My clinical placement at Mater Hospital gave me hands-on experience in cardiac diagnostics and introduced me to a dynamic healthcare team. The professional connections I built there have opened doors and supported my transition into postgraduate research.”
What’s your current job and what does a typical day involve?
“I am a full-time research student, where I spend most of my time collecting data and writing my thesis. I also work as a sessional academic, teaching anatomy across multiple Faculty of Health courses, creating an engaging learning environment and helping students understand complex anatomical concepts in practical sessions.”

Joshua Ho
Bachelor of Information Technology / Bachelor of Engineering student
What will you be doing at Open Day?
“I’ll be at the IT information tent, sharing my experiences and explaining why IT is a great career choice. You really should consider it!”
Why did you choose to study engineering and IT at QUT?
“I chose a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Software Systems) and Bachelor of IT (Computer Science) to gain a comprehensive understanding of electronic systems, from hardware to high-level programming languages like Python and C#. I chose QUT because of its focus on practical learning and alignment with the Westpac Young Technologist scholarship.”
What uni clubs/societies and activities are you part of?
“During my first year, I was a member of the Code Network club, which gave me an opportunity to attend industry talks and learn more about working in technical roles. Today, I participate in programs like the Faculty of Science’s Dean’s Scholars program, which provides opportunities and support for high-achieving students.”
What internships or other work opportunities have you had through uni?
“I’ve worked in a variety of areas across QUT, from student recruitment and faculty teams to technical roles within QUT’s web development team. This has allowed me to gain valuable industry experience whilst still at uni.”
Any advice for school leavers?
“There are so many opportunities so don’t be afraid to take risks and say yes to things. Ask lots of questions at Open Day, even if you’re unsure about study areas. We’re here to help you find a future career that you’ll be passionate about and enjoy!”
