What you'll receive

In 2026 there is one award on offer, valued at $5,000 as a one-off research allowance.

Eligibility

To apply for the scholarships, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident or a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa or an international student studying at an Australian university
  • a current undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD student at an Australian university, enrolled in an Engineers Australia-accredited program.

How to apply

Applications for The Rod Walker Award for Advancement of Civil Uncrewed Aircraft Systems will close 31 July 2026.

To apply for the scholarships, submit a single application via the online form.

You'll be judged on:

  • how your research enables Professor Walker's vision to see uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) benefit all Australia
  • how your research builds on Professor Walker's foundations supporting a viable and sustainable commercial UAS industry
  • academic excellence in research
  • the high quality of the thesis itself.
