What you'll receive
In 2026 there is one award on offer, valued at $5,000 as a one-off research allowance.
Eligibility
To apply for the scholarships, you must be:
- an Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident or a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa or an international student studying at an Australian university
- a current undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD student at an Australian university, enrolled in an Engineers Australia-accredited program.
How to apply
Applications for The Rod Walker Award for Advancement of Civil Uncrewed Aircraft Systems will close 31 July 2026.
To apply for the scholarships, submit a single application via the online form.
You'll be judged on:
- how your research enables Professor Walker's vision to see uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) benefit all Australia
- how your research builds on Professor Walker's foundations supporting a viable and sustainable commercial UAS industry
- academic excellence in research
- the high quality of the thesis itself.
What happens next?
All applicants will be notified via email of the outcome of their application as soon as possible after the closing date.

About the scholarship
The Rod Walker Award for Advancement of Civil Uncrewed Aircraft Systems is to inspire and recognise final year undergraduate and PhD students whose project or research demonstrates excellence in advancement of civil uncrewed aircraft systems in Australia.
