What you'll receive

This scholarship is valued at $45,000, paid over two years in two instalments of $22,500.

Other benefits include:

  • a mentorship with a recipient of an Award in The Order of Australia who is eminent in your chosen field of study
  • an invitation to a gala awards ceremony associated with the Association’s Annual Conference Dinner the recipient is required to attend.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • be enrolled in your first university degree
  • be currently enrolled, and in your second year of study (completed 96 credit points) in one of the following courses:
    • EV01 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Master of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence
    • EN01 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechatronics), including a minor in Robotics
    • double degrees with EN01 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechatronics), having completed 96 credit points in EN01
  • be a full-time student (enrolled in 36 credit points or more), expecting to complete your course by full-time study.

You must also demonstrate:

  • high academic achievement in your studies
  • leadership, initiative and involvement in community affairs
  • a need for financial assistance to benefit from the completion of your course
  • how you would benefit from a mentor in your field of study.

How to apply

You need to complete and submit the online application form by Thursday 10 July 2025.

Your application should include the following:

  • a copy of your academic record from HiQ site
  • a copy of your CV
  • a written response to the application questions
  • a statement of disadvantage or hardship in further study (if applicable)
  • a written response outlining how the proposed mentorship might assist you.

What happens next?

Once applications close:

  • a selection committee, comprising representatives from QUT and the Order of Australia Association Foundation, will review all applications and agree on a shortlist of candidates
  • shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a face-to-face interview in Brisbane on 3 September 2025
  • the successful recipient will be notified by phone and email following the interview process.

As part of the scholarship, the awardee will be invited and required to attend:

  • a round table conference at Admiralty House in Sydney in late September 2025, alongside other scholarship recipients
  • a gala awards ceremony during the Order of Australia Association’s Annual Conference Dinner in Brisbane on 18 April 2026, where the awardee will receive their certificate from the Governor-General or her representative.

Conditions

The awardee must provide a commitment that in the years to come, and subject to their availability, they would be willing to engage with fellow alumni, as well as the activities of the Foundation and the Order of Australia Association.

About the scholarship

The Order of Australia Association Foundation is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders by helping promising young Australians to achieve their potential for the benefit of future generations of Australians.

This scholarship is generously funded by Beverley Pinder OAM and Angela Wheelton OAM to support students with exceptional academic performance and demonstrated leadership in the community, who are studying robotics and would benefit from financial assistance.
