What you'll receive

You'll receive a top-up scholarship to the value of $10,000 per year of enrolment, with a scholarship end date that matches your existing HDR living stipend scholarship.

An additional amount of up to $5,000 is available to support project costs, equipment or research-related travel for site visits, data collection, and/or conference attendance.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand student studying or applying for a PhD or Master of Philosophy and meet QUT’s admission requirements
  • maintain full-time enrolment
  • apply and be successful in obtaining a substantive scholarship through the annual scholarship round or via an alternative scholarship opportunity.
    • In certain circumstances, a potential student who has not been offered a scholarship may be considered for a full scholarship in addition to top-up and costs. Contact us for more information.
  • be studying translational research that aims to improve the quality of life, approaches to care, or recovery of people with spinal cord injuries including in the fields of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, nursing, exercise physiology and social work, or interdisciplinary.

You'll also be assessed by the following criteria:

  • academic record and research achievement relative to opportunity
  • research environment and supervisory team
  • research project and strategic alignment (projects that aim to improve care, clinical management and clinical outcomes, and quality of life of people with spinal cord injury).

Current Students

For current QUT MPhil or PhD students please submit your application comprising up-to-date CV and brief research proposal (1-2 pages) to health.engage@qut.edu.au.

New Students

To be considered for this scholarship, you will need to apply for and be accepted into a MPhil or PhD at QUT, by submitting an expression of interest (EOI). Please refer to QUT's how to apply for a research degree webpage.

The EOI must include:

  • an up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV)
  • academic transcripts
  • a brief research proposal (1-2 pages)
  • you must indicate that you are applying for this specific scholarship in question 2 of the 'financial details' section of the application form.

About the scholarship

The Spinal Cord Injury PhD and Master of Philosophy Top-up Scholarship is open to Australian and New Zealand students to undertake a PhD or Master of Philosophy at QUT comprising translational research to improve the quality of life, approaches to care, or recovery of people with spinal cord injuries. Topics may be situated in any discipline, including but not restricted to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, nursing, exercise physiology and social work, or may be interdisciplinary.

This scholarship is made possible by a donor who wishes to support applied and translational research, covering any aspect of clinical care and rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injuries, including both physical and emotional wellbeing.

It is anticipated that spinal cord injury research funded through this scheme will result in improved care, clinical management and ultimately improve the clinical outcomes and quality of life of people with a spinal cord injury.
