About the prize
In 2004, the Rotary Club of Toowong was approached by a final year medical student who requested financial assistance to undertake an elective in Papua New Guinea. The Rotary Club of Toowong Medical Students’ Grant evolved from this request and then became the Rotary Club of Toowong Feros Medical Students’ Grant in honour of club members John and Judy Feros, whose dedication and input helped establish the program and set the foundation for its ongoing success.
In 2015, Rotary extended the program, creating the Rotary Feros Nursing Students’ Grants, to fund 2-4 third-year nursing students from QUT to undertake a clinical practice experience in a remote or Indigenous clinic or hospital in Queensland. The aim of the nursing grants is to enable students to learn firsthand the range of health conditions that nursing staff in remote areas routinely manage.
