What you'll receive
First year students commencing in Semester 2, 2026 will receive fully funded up until 31 December 2026 accommodation at Student One Elizabeth Street. Rooming types are allocated based on individual needs. Each student will enter into an individual lease agreement.
Rooming types include:
- executive apartments
- queen apartments
- shared apartments - four or five bedroom apartments.
Other benefits include:
- residency at Student One Elizabeth Street in a dedicated student community on levels 9 and 10
- access to the Oodgeroo Unit and QUT community for cultural and academic support
- free unlimited Wi-Fi
- central location near public transport, shops, restaurants and QUT campuses
- modern amenities such as a rooftop cinema, BBQ area, gym, study areas and games rooms
- secure accommodation with 24/7 reception
- access to events, workshops, and activities for networking and development.
Eligibility
You must:
- be aged 18 or older
- identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Person as defined under Section 5 of the Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent Policy
- be an Australian citizen
- be relocating from a regional, rural, or remote area or interstate area
- be commencing an undergraduate award course at QUT for the first time in Semester 2, 2026.
How to apply
To be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application online by Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
To apply for this scholarship, you will need to do the following:
- Provide a copy of previous academic transcripts or academic records from other institutions e.g. school reports or if relevant a copy of your current Queensland University of Technology academic transcript.
- Provide a copy of your current resume / curriculum vitae (CV).
- Complete or be able to complete the QUT Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent (CATSID) process. If you haven’t commenced the process, for more information, please go to the webpage to find out more on what CATSID is and how to complete the application
- Provide evidence that you’re relocating from a regional, rural, or remote area or interstate area. Evidence may include: school letters/documents, higher education provider letters/documents, health care professionals (e.g. doctor, dentist, pharmacist, community services etc.), Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisation or Elders group letter/documents, Centrelink documents, Medicare documents, proof of vehicle registration, utility bills, bank statements, PAYG or Notice of Assessment from the Australian Taxation Office.
- Provide a written submission (approximately 150–300 words per question) addressing the following questions:
- Tell us what skills and experience do you possess that will aid you in balancing your independent living and university commitments?
- Explain your current study goals and future career aspirations, and how receiving the Indigenous Australian Accommodation Scholarship would support your academic journey and success at QUT.
- Describe your current accommodation and financial circumstances, including any challenges you have experienced in accessing safe, stable, or affordable accommodation while studying.
- Tell us how you engage with or contribute to community, and how your studies and future goals may create positive outcomes for the Indigenous Australian community.
- Provide any additional supporting documentation relevant to your application, including evidence of financial hardship or personal circumstances (if applicable).
- Provide a community recommendation letter. This letter should be from an Indigenous Australia community member who speak to your character, personal strengths and development of your character. The community recommendation letter should support your application to study. These recommendation letters must include details of the person providing the information (i.e. email and phone number) and include a signature and date
- Provide an education/or an employment recommendation letter. The education recommendation letter should be written by your most recent education provider- secondary education/VET studies/higher education within the last 2-3 years. The education recommendation letter should be a from a staff member (e.g. teacher or principal) who can speak to your academic preparedness for university studies. The letter should also speak to your character and maturity in being ready for this next big step. Alternatively, you should provide an employment letter from your current employer which speaks to your character and maturity for university studies.
Students should ensure all documents are clear, complete, and submitted before the application closing date.
What happens next?
The scholarship application process is a competitive process. With a limited number of scholarships available, not all eligible applicants will be offered a scholarship.
Successful applicants will be provided more information and must attend a mandatory in-person induction at Student One, Elizabeth Street.
Conditions
To maintain this scholarship, which applies to second year student applicants, you must:
- maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 4.00 or higher each semester
- be enrolled full-time, internally
- maintain good student behaviour in accordance with the IAAS Lease Agreement, Student One Residence Rules, and the QUT Student Code of Conduct.
You can change your award course whilst receiving benefits under the IAAS.
You can't:
- take a leave of absence (only permitted under special circumstances)
- be enrolled part-time or online whilst receiving benefits under the IAAS.
