What you'll receive
You’ll receive a scholarship valued up to $10,000.
The scholarship will be paid as a stipend in two instalments of $5,000 per semester for up to one year, following confirmation of your enrolment after the census date of each semester, commencing Semester 1, 2026.
You'll also be allocated a QIC mentor who will support and assist you in your academic and professional career success.
Subject to approval by the donor, the scholarship may continue for an additional period. The continuation of the scholarship is at the discretion of the donor and is subject to the recipient meeting the terms and conditions of the scholarship for each applicable year. Recipients will be notified in writing of the outcome each applicable year.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:
- be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident
- be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent as per the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Descent (CATSID) for students policy
- be studying part-time full-time either externally or on campus
- be holding a course (cumulative) Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 or above, if you are a current student at QUT
- have not received this scholarship before.
You must also be admitted and enrolled at QUT in one of the following undergraduate courses at the census date:
- Bachelor of Business, majoring in
- accounting
- economics
- finance
- human resources
- marketing
- property economics
- Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Computer and Software Systems)
- Bachelor of Information Technology, majoring in
- business analysis and IT management
- cyber security
- computer science
- Bachelor of Data Science.
Double degrees at QUT that include a combination of the above may also be considered.
Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent (CATSID)
Indigenous Australian applicants who have not previously verified their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent with the QUT Oodgeroo Uni t, and who are applying for an identified scholarship, must complete the Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent (CATSID) process for your application to be considered for shortlisting.

How to apply
To apply for this scholarship, you must complete and submit the 2026 QIC First Nations Tertiary Scholarship application form by Sunday 31 May 2026.
Your application should also include the following attachments:
- a copy of your resume/curriculum vitae (CV)
- a copy of your current academic transcript (if available), or any previous academic transcripts or academic records from other institutions
- a written submission (150-300 words per question) addressing the following:
- Tell us about yourself, your mob, and the strengths, values, and leadership qualities you bring to your community. How have you used these qualities to support or uplift others?
- What drives your passion for your chosen study area, and how will this scholarship assist you to achieve your future goals?
- How have you contributed to your Indigenous community so far, and in what ways do you hope to use your degree to create positive change for your community in the future?
- What challenges have you navigated during your study journey, and how would this scholarship support your continued success, wellbeing, and ability to thrive?
How to get the most out of your application
- Poor spelling or grammar reflects a rushed and inadequately written application. Type your answers into a Word document to check for spelling and grammar before submitting answers into each response field.
- Remember there's a maximum of 300 words per question. Be informative, clear and concise to provide answers that stand out from other applicants.
- Check the terms and conditions to ensure you are following all necessary steps and supplying all the relevant information required for the scholarship.
What happens next?
The selection process is actively managed by the Oodgeroo Unit with applications reviewed and assessed by a selection panel that will include a QIC appointed committee member.
The selection committee may decide to interview short-listed candidates.

About the scholarship
The intention of the QIC First Nations Tertiary Scholarship program is to provide educational support and employment pathways to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying an undergraduate degree at QUT.
QIC has partnered with QUT since 2018 to deliver the First Nations Tertiary Scholarship program. The scholarship program is a key component of QIC's Reconciliation Action Plan's commitment to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians' education and employment pathways.
