What you'll receive
You'll receive a scholarship valued at $10,000, paid as a one-off research allowance.
Eligibility
To apply for this scholarship, you must:
- be a current research student at QUT, enrolled either full-time or part-time in a research degree (i.e. Doctor of Philosophy, professional doctorate or Master of Philosophy)
- be pursuing research in science and engineering that help us thrive, encompassing all spheres of endeavour including (but not limited to):
- physics
- chemistry
- biology
- aerosol science
- aerobiology
- engineering
- data science
- have completed at least the first milestone of your research degree.
How to apply
You need to complete and submit the online application form by the closing date of 11.59pm Sunday 25 October 2026, including the following attachments:
- a copy of your resume/curriculum vitae (CV), including research outputs such as conference presentations, posters, publications (please include DOIs where applicable)
- a research proposal detailing the impact of your research and how the scholarship funds will be used
- a completed Postgraduate Student IP Assignment and Confidentiality Deed
- a QUT Confirmation of Enrolment letter, which must include:
- student number
- research degree name and course type
- thesis title
- faculty, school and supervisors
- degree start date, and current consumed load
- milestone dates and status
- maximum candidature date
- approval leave of absence dates
- any scholarship/sponsorships already held.

What happens next?
Once you submit your application, it will be reviewed by a selection panel.
Your application and supporting documentation will be the major consideration for the panel's decision. Reference checks may also be considered by the panel.
You will be considered based on the following criteria, listed in order of priority:
- The quality of the research proposal on science that makes us thrive in science and engineering.
- The capability of the researcher, as evidenced by research outputs and/or references.
- The impact that the scholarship will have on your career.
- How the activity you are proposing will contribute to developing knowledge and solutions within science and engineering that makes us thrive.
Conditions
The following expectations apply to this scholarship:
- dissemination of research outcomes
- you are expected to publish the results of your research in an appropriate forum, for example, via peer reviewed journals
- summary of scholarship outcomes
- you will be required to provide a summary of the outcomes achieved through the scholarship.

Established in 1998, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program is founded on the belief that the world needs science and science needs women. The program is committed to harnessing the talents, knowledge and expertise of women to help achieve a fairer, more sustainable and inclusive research, for the benefit of all.
Distinguished Professor Lidia Morawska, a world-leading researcher in air quality, was selected as the 2023 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Laureate for Asia and the Pacific.
In 2024, with the support of Fondation L’Oréal, Queensland University of Technology and Professor Morawska established this scholarship to support postgraduate research students conducting research that helps us thrive in science and engineering.
