What you'll receive

The P2P program provides financial support if you're:

  • studying a PhD or professional doctorate
  • articulating from a QUT Master of Philosophy into a PhD
  • undertaking a postdoctoral fellowship.

PhD/Professional Doctorate

You'll receive:

  • $50,000 per annum (pa) living stipend for up to four years (tax-free for full-time students)
  • $5,000 pa allowance for consumables and professional development activities
  • up to 120 hours of paid employment each year of candidature to undertake sessional academic, research and strategic engagement activities.

Postdoctoral Fellowship

You'll receive:

  • one-year QUT Level A academic appointment
  • opportunities to apply for a one-year exchange/postdoctoral fellowship/external appointment with a university/government/industry organisation aligned with your career development needs
  • two-year QUT Level B academic appointment.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • apply for and be accepted into a QUT PhD or Professional Doctorate course or be currently enrolled in one of these courses for less than 12 months (full time equivalent)
  • be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • commit to full-time, internal enrolment (eligible part-time students will also be considered)
  • be nominated for the program by the Faculty in line with the strategic fit of the proposed research and available Faculty funding.

You may also be considered if you are:

  • a QUT Master of Philosophy student who successfully articulates into the PhD
  • a QUT Professional Doctorate student who plans to pursue an academic or research career (subject to faculty approval).

You must submit an expression of interest (EOI) for consideration before applying for this scholarship.

Your EOI must include supporting documentation. Please indicate that you want to be considered for the P2P Program Scholarship at question 2 of the Financial Details section.

Pathways to the program

An Introduction to research program will be offered by the Carumba Institute, Graduate Research and Development (GRE+D) and faculties, to prepare prospective doctoral research students. This will include meeting with proposed supervisors to prepare a research project topic.

About the scholarship

If you’re an Indigenous Australian applying for or enrolled in a PhD or Professional Doctorate at QUT for less than 12 months (full time equivalent), you may be suitable for our P2P program. The program provides scholarship funding, career development and research training opportunities during your doctoral candidature, followed by a pathway into academia.

Support for a career in research

The P2P program supports Indigenous Australians to gain doctoral research qualifications and academic positions, thereby strengthening Indigenous Australian early career academic capability, knowledges and perspectives.

The P2P program is a joint initiative between QUT’s Research Portfolio and the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy in collaboration with faculties.
