What you'll receive
You'll receive a bursary valued at $1,250 paid in one instalment.
Eligibility
You must be:
- an Australian, New Zealand or International citizen
- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and meet the documentary evidence outlined in the Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent information (link)
You must:
- be enrolled as an active higher degree by research (HDR) student undertaking or completing a Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy/Education
- Master of Philosophy students must have submitted their research proposal milestone and completed the approval process
- Doctor of Philosophy students must have completed their confirmation of candidature milestone
- provide evidence that their research project is related to First Nations knowledge systems and perspectives
- demonstrate involvement within or for First Nations communities.

To be considered for this bursary, you must submit your application online by Sunday 29 March 2026.
What happens next?
Your application will be assessed by representatives from the Carumba Institute based on the application form submitted and your written submission. Successful applicants will be informed by telephone and/or email.
About the bursary
The purpose of the Geoffrey and Cynthia Taylor Bursary is to reward two First Nations students for their dedication and commitment to university, research, and future career aspirations. The bursary is open to students across all faculties to reward and recognise continuing or graduating Indigenous HDR students for their commitment to research and Black Excellence.
