What you'll receive
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must be an Australian citizen (including dual citizens).
You must also:
- identify as female
- be from a low-income background
- be experiencing financial hardship
- be from a regional, rural, or remote area
- be enrolled in, or have been accepted for enrolment in, IF49 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in one of the following areas:
- natural and physical sciences
- architecture and building
- creative arts
- education.
How to apply
To apply for the Dr Laurie Cowled Learning Potential Fund PhD Scholarship, you must complete and submit the application form by Friday 31 July 2026.
As part of your application, you will be required to provide:
- a copy of your current QUT academic transcript (if you are a current QUT student), or a previous academic transcript or academic record from another institution
- a summary of your research proposal
- an outline of your research background
- a written response to the selection criteria
- contact details for two referees.
What happens next?
Applications will be reviewed by the selection panel and applicants will be notified of the outcome in due course.

About the scholarship
The Learning Potential Fund provides support through scholarships and bursaries to students experiencing financial need.
This scholarship is funded by philanthropist Dr Laurie Cowled AM, with the aim of supporting the education of women - particularly those from regional, rural, or remote backgrounds - who are undertaking doctoral studies in:
- natural and physical sciences
- architecture and building
- education
- creative arts.
