What you'll receive
You’ll receive a scholarship valued at $10,000.
The scholarship will be paid as a stipend in two instalments of $5,000 per semester for up to one year, following confirmation of your enrolment after the census date of each semester, commencing Semester 1, 2026.
You’ll receive a further $10,000 each year thereafter, up to a capped total of $40,000, subject to meeting ongoing eligibility requirements.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent as per the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Descent (CATSID) for students policy
- have accepted and enrolled as a full-time student at QUT (36 credit points or more per semester) in an undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) course in 2026.
You must also be studying in one of the following disciplines:
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Mathematics.
How to apply
To apply for this scholarship, you must complete and submit the 2026 CSIRO Indigenous STEM Scholarship by Sunday, 22 March 2026.
Your application should also include the following attachments:
- a copy of your current QUT academic transcript (if available), or any previous academic transcripts or academic records from other institutions
- a copy of your resume / curriculum vitae (CV)
- a written submission (150 - 300 words per question) addressing the following questions:
- Tell us about your mob and the personal qualities that guide you, highlighting moments where you've demonstrated leadership or contributed positively to people around you.
- Explain what motivates your interest in STEM and how this course will support the future career aspirations you are working towards.
- Describe the ways you engage with community and explain how your degree will help you create positive change for the Indigenous Australian community.
What happens next?
Due to the large volume of applications received, we will only notify students who are successful in being offered a scholarship.
The scholarship application process is a competitive process. With a limited number of scholarships available, not all eligible applicants will be offered a scholarship.

About the scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to support high‑achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students undertaking an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) at QUT. By providing financial assistance and recognising academic excellence, this scholarship aims to encourage and empower First Nations students to pursue their educational goals within these disciplines.
