Coming back to QUT

If you used to study at QUT, but took a break or were excluded for some reason, you can apply to come back.

Domestic and international students follow different processes. Domestic students are Australian and New Zealand citizens, and Australian permanent residents, who are studying in Australia.

I’ve had some time away from QUT

I’m a domestic student and I want to return to study in the same course

You must complete and submit an application to return to study.

If you haven't been enrolled for two consecutive semesters and you're not on an approved leave of absence, you'll have been withdrawn from your course.

I’m a domestic student and I want to return to study in a different course

You’ll need to submit a new application for this course, the same as any prospective student would. Follow our undergraduate applying guide or postgraduate applying guide, depending on the course you want to apply for.

I’m an international student

You need to submit a new application for this course, the same as any prospective student would. Follow our international student applying guide.

I was excluded for unsatisfactory academic performance, and now I want to come back

You must wait 12 months from your exclusion before you can apply to come back. When you do apply, you must include the proper supporting documents.

Supporting documents include:

  • a written statement outlining why you should be allowed to return to QUT, including how you have overcome the circumstances that led to your exclusion
  • any documentation that supports your statement, including transcripts from study, references from employers or letters from your doctor.

I was excluded for non-academic reasons (e.g., discipline, misconduct), and now I want to come back

I’m a domestic student

You can’t apply while your exclusion or suspension is still in effect. Once your exclusion or suspension is over, you can enrol as usual. You must enrol in the semester immediately following your exclusion, or you’ll be withdrawn from your course.

I’m an international student

You need to submit a new application for your course, including all supporting documents. You can apply once your exclusion or suspension is over.

Follow our international student applying guide.
