Preventing grate over-heating in solid fuel boilers

The furnace grate is a key component of the many boilers that burn solid fuels. Many biomasses with large particle sizes such as woodchip burn on furnace grates and grate combustion assists the combustion of fuels that burn in mostly in suspension such as sugar cane bagasse and sawdust. While furnace grates are successfully used in the combustion of a range of solid fuels, they can overheat and fail, resulting in downtime and high costs for grate replacement.
