Overview

The future of fashion consumption is changing rapidly. A new digital fashion economy is emerging at the intersection of fashion, law and social change.

Incumbent fashion houses are now staking their territorial claims in the digital realm.

At the same time, traditional markets for fashion have failed, and manufacturing has been largely offshored, while consumers are increasingly more informed about the impact of fashion consumption.

Research activities

This is a cross-discipline project that might include people from the disciplines of digital media, fashion and law.

Outcomes

The purpose of this investigation is to understand what scenarios for future fashion consumption might look like, and what might be the impact on global manufacturing capacities, in the context of the digital fashion economy, including artificial intelligence.

Current research in Australia indicates that future fashion scenarios are complex to understand, however, there is no clear path forward. The intended outcome is to try to define this path with a view toward implementing positive change.

A further purpose may be to consider what it means for the performance and consumption of fashion if human consciousness is semi-permanently or permanently engaged in the digital realm.

Skills and experience

Candidates should have a fashion background with an interest in the digital fashion economy.
