What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose of this research is to investigate what characteristics are associated with healthcare practitioners’ use of patient feedback. We want to understand how healthcare practitioners can be supported to respond to patient feedback. Insights from this study will help inform future initiatives to better prepare and support healthcare practitioners to respond to patient feedback. They may also help support patient involvement in care and improve patients’ experiences and outcomes in the Australian healthcare system.
Are you looking for people like me?
You will be eligible to participate if you:
- are a healthcare practitioner
- provide healthcare services (including allied health care) directly to patients
- currently work in Australia.
What will you ask me to do?
Your participation will involve reading an imaginative scenario in which you have received a report summarising your patient survey results over the past month. You will be asked to read the example patient feedback report. You will also be asked to complete a 65-item questionnaire with Likert scale answers (strongly agree – strongly disagree) that will take about 15-20 min.
Are there any risks for me in taking part?
The research team has identified the following possible risks in relation to participating in this study:
- Risk of inconvenience from time commitment (15-20 min).
- Possible minor discomfort when evaluating your own practice or viewing the example feedback report.
The risk for discomfort is low and is not expected to be higher than what you would reasonably expect from your occupational duties. To minimise these risks:
- you can skip any questions you are uncomfortable answering
- you will be reminded that the example feedback report is not based on your actual practice
- professional support contact information will be provided.
If you do agree to participate, you can withdraw from participation in the research project without comment or penalty.
Are there any benefits for me in taking part?
It is expected that this research project will not directly benefit you. The outcomes of the research, however, may benefit future patient's quality of care by understanding how healthcare practitioners use patient feedback. You may experience self-reflection on your own practice and use of patient feedback. You can request a brief summary of the outcomes of the study by providing your email address at the end of the survey.
Will I be compensated for my time?
To recognise your contribution should you choose to participate, the research team is offering you the chance to enter a prize draw to win one of two $50 Coles/Myer gift cards.
Prize draw entries open 11 July 2025 and close 30 September 2025. Prizes will be drawn on 1 October 2025.

I am interested - what should I do next?
You will be provided with further information to ensure that your decision and consent to participate is fully informed.
