Queensland University of Technology will hold two information evenings on Wednesday June 3 - one for parents and senior school students, and another for mature-age students looking to return to study.

The Parent Information Evening is designed to give parents the information they need to support their son or daughter as they make course and career decisions and move from school to university.

QUT events officer Sarah Griinke said parents had a big role in helping their children with decisions about post-school options, but often felt they did not have the information they needed to provide valuable advice.

"The evening focuses on answering parents' questions about career decisions, gaining admission to university, courses available at QUT, study costs and sources of information for parents and students," she said.

"It is great if the students themselves can attend as well, as it really opens up the discussion between parents and their son or daughter."

The Return to Study Evening will provide advice for people who would like to undertake university study, either at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

They may be a first-time student using their old school results or work and life experience to gain entry to university, or they may be pursuing further study to build on previous university or TAFE qualifications.

"Many students come to QUT through non-traditional pathways - they may have been working for a number of years, spent time raising a family, or taken a break from their studies," Ms Griinke said.

"This event will advise people how they can use their experiences to gain entry to QUT and put them on right track for a successful application.

"Staff from each faculty will be on hand to discuss course options, and the information seminar will cover topics such as gaining entry, study costs, support for students and scholarships."

Both events will start at 6.30pm on Wednesday, June 3 in the Creative Industries Precinct at QUT's Kelvin Grove campus.
