Students facing financial difficulties can apply to receive one of 250 free computers, complete with essential software and a USB stick, courtesy of the QUT Equity Computer Scheme.
Equity coordinator, Mary Kelly, said each year decommissioned computers from QUT were reconditioned by Information Technology Services and given to struggling students.
"Providing computers is an extra way that we can support students," Ms Kelly said.
"Computers are a necessary tool for study, however affordability and access to computers on campus can be difficult for some students.
"For example, some people may have parental or carer responsibilities, may live quite a distance away or have a disability which makes getting to the computer labs difficult."
All QUT students (except cross-institutional or visiting students) are eligible to apply for the 2009 Equity Computer Scheme. Applications are now available and will close on Monday, February 23, 2009.
