QUT researchers have been awarded more than $1.3 million in Australian Research Council grants to support research endeavours.
Dr Michael Cholette; Dr Pietro Borghesani; Emeritus Professor Lin Ma; Dr Venkatarami Polagari Reddy; Dr Joseph Matthew and Professor Francesco Braghin were awarded $495,820 for their project on condition-based maintenance optimisation for Queensland Rail which aims to reduce costs and improve track conditions.
Professor Kerrie Mengersen; Professor Joanne Aitken; Dr Susanna Cramb; Professor Peter Baade; Dr Belinda Spratt and Dr Helen Thompson received $588,955 for a project aimed at developing new statistical methods for extracting insights into spatial and temporal variation in areal data.
These tools will extend the Australian Cancer Atlas which provides small area estimates for 20 cancers across Australia, and the team will work with the Cancer Council Queensland.
Associate Professor Azharul Karim, Professor Yuantong Gu; Professor Bhesh Bhandari; Dr Tony Petley and Scott Muller received $310,000 for their project which aims to create a multilevel modelling framework to design an advanced food drying process to increase product quality, improve energy efficiency and reduce drying time and food waste.
The grants will allow universities to develop infrastructure, equipment, and facilities to help researchers conduct world-class research that will address challenges in areas including astronomy, biology and security through the ARC Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities scheme.
