Kelvin Grove campus

An outdoor view of trees, tents and crowds at Kelvin Grove campusA QUT student in a uniform and hat helps direct a visitor in a Sikh turban.

This year at Kelvin Grove campus you can visit the tents and talk to staff and students from the following disciplines:

  • Biomedical sciences (activities on both campuses)
  • Exercise sciences
  • Medicine
  • Nursing
  • Nutrition sciences
  • Optometry
  • Paramedic science
  • Podiatry
  • Psychology (behavioural sciences)
  • Social work and human services.

This is the first time we will have medicine academics at the Kelvin Grove Health tent. If you are interested in studying medicine you can find out more about medicine at Open Day.

Check out the following tours and activities:

Biomedical sciences H2 laboratory Open House

Future biomedical science and medical laboratory science students can explore state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in the H2 laboratory. The 120-seat wet lab is open throughout the day and will showcase undergraduate lab activities in microbiology, immunology and introductory molecular biology units.

⚠️Top tip: closed shoes are required to enter the laboratories.

Nursing Clinical Simulation Open House

Drop by any time to explore our recently expanded nursing simulation facility, which replicates a real-life hospital environment, where students can practice their skills in realistic scenarios. The ward is equipped with electric beds, high-fidelity mannequins, advanced interactive technology and industry-standard medical equipment and simulators.

A teacher and three students stand next to a bed in a simulation laboratory that looks like a hospital ward.

Paramedic science simulation labs open house

Paramedic science students practice their skills inside life-sized ambulances using human patient simulators. Check out these simulation facilities and participate in hands-on activities like learning to perform CPR on a life-sized mannequin.

A female student chats with a paramedic science lecturer. Around them are tables set up with practice dummies and equipment and medicines that paramedics use to treat patients.

A student standing next to a life-sized ambulance rig talks to an academic.

Psychology research: driving simulator experience

See how psychology research can be applied to change driver behaviour and save lives.

Try our state-of-the-art driving simulator. Use full-motion technology and a 180-degree immersive view to explore how people think, react and make decisions on the road—showcasing how science, technology and psychology work together.

QUT Health Clinics: clinical exercise physiology, optometry, podiatry tours

Our health clinics are situated across the Kelvin Grove Village Centre shopping precinct, and offer quality health services to the community and clinical education to our students. Take a tour of our clinical exercise physiology, podiatry and optometry clinics where students work with real patients under the supervision of professionals.

Sports and exercise science biomechanics and resistance labs

Take a tour of our biomechanics lab space which utilises an indoor sprint track, force plates and 3D motion video capture to allow for in-depth understanding of movement analysis of both athletes and clinical populations. The resistance lab is used to instruct students in the use of weight-based training exercises for athletic performance, injury rehabilitation and clinical patient therapy.

A female student in a QUT sports uniform is standing behind a male client to spot him on the bench press. He is holding large weights and she has her hands underneath the weights ready to catch them.

Gardens Point campus

A sunny day on campus, in the foreground people relax on bean bags in the background there are crowded tents.

In the heart of the Brisbane CBD you’ll find QUT’s Gardens Point campus. Here are the disciplines that you'll find at the information tents at Gardens Point:

  • Biomedical sciences (activities on both campuses)
  • Medical imaging
  • Pharmacy
  • Radiation therapy.

Biomedical science and medical laboratory science Open House

Explore experiments that biomedical science and medical laboratory science students perform as part of their studies at the Q Block Super Lab, on level 4.

A QUT student stands in a large laboratory surrounded by activities and experiements, he is explaining anatomy models to a family of three.

Look at parasite jars, bacterial plates, and check out gram stains (bacteria on a slide) under the microscope. You could try your hand at loading samples onto e-Gels or take part in a karyotype simulator activity—in the video below current medical laboratory science student Abena Botwewood describes the types of testing she does in class to give you an idea of what you'll see.

Chat with technical staff and academics as they take you through the hands-on activities and ask questions about our courses.

⚠️Top tip: closed shoes are required to enter the laboratories.
