Biography
Dr. Tony Zahtila is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the Faculty of Engineering's School of Mechanical, Medical & Process Engineering. He holds a BSc, MEng, and PhD from the University of Melbourne. Before coming to QUT, Dr. Zahtila was a CTR Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Turbulence Research at Stanford University, where he worked on uncertainty quantification, machine learning and predictive models at exascale for multiphysics ensembles.Dr. Zahtila has an extensive publishing record in Journal of Fluid Mechanics and Physical Review Fluids. His research focuses on fundamental fluid mechanics with focus on particle-laden flows and in rocket combustors, but also the intersection of fluid mechanics research with computational and mathematical engineering such as through Miura-origami folds, and Fernandez-Guasti shapes. He has ongoing interest in machine learning for extreme data compression and predictive systems forecasting.
Dr. Zahtila teaches into EGB322, EGB323, EGH422 EGH423 covering principles of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
