Biography
Simone has over fifteen years' experience in marketing roles, in both the in the private and higher education sector. Simone's career history is strongly centred on success in the business niche of marketing, communications and event management; including the development and implementation of strategic marketing and communication plans to boost numbers of students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at university; and managing a team to deliver a high profile programme of practical and innovative STEM activities and events across Queensland.
Simone is currently responsible for leading the development and implementation of a range of STEM learning experiences for the Science and Engineering Faculty and the STEM for Schools program, including providing high level advice to Faculty Executives to ensure that these engagement programs are appropriately and successfully executed and reflect QUT’s strategic vision.
Simone has played a key role in managing and promoting high school engagement activities at QUT for over ten years, and recognises the critical success of STEM initiatives Power of Engineering; Science and Engineering Challenge; F1 in Schools; and Engineering Link Project has had on influencing student’s decisions to study STEM disciplines. Working closely with these initiatives, Simone is committed to ensuring that these effective programs continue to encourage more students, particularly girls, into mathematics, engineering and science by providing early exposure to, and understanding of, the STEM career opportunities.
Additionally, Simone serves on the Advisory Board of the Power of Engineering Inc. and served on the National Science and Engineering Challenge Council between 2014 - 2018. Simone provides consultation on marketing and fundraising tactics, and actively volunteers her event planning services for non-profit organisations.
