Stephen has also taught a variety of law units, including company law and taxation law (both introductory and advanced taxation law).
He has won numerous teaching awards, including several "best lecturer" awards at QUT. In 2006, Stephen developed the accountancy capstone unit, the first of its kind in Australia, which adopts a problem-based learning (PBL) approach. In a flipped classroom environment, students (working in groups) act as the client advisors discussing, collaborating and solving real-world multidimensional accounting problems based on limited given facts typically presented to first year accounting graduated working in a chartered accounting firm.
This unit was revolutionary in accounting education and won several awards for innovative teaching practices. Writing up the development of this unit also resulted in two "A" star publications in the US Journal of Accounting Education.
Stephen remains passionate and committed to teaching and bringing 'real world' client examples into the classroom to give students an insight into the practical implications of the content being taught.
