Biography
Rodrigo Santa Cruz is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). His research lies at the intersection of computer vision, machine learning, and 3D scene understanding, with a focus on developing methods that enable machines to reconstruct, interpret, and interact with the visual world. His work spans neural rendering, 3D reconstruction, geometric deep learning, and visual perception, with applications in healthcare, robotics, and environmental monitoring. He is particularly interested in bridging advances in machine learning with practical solutions that address real-world challenges.
Prior to joining QUT, he worked as a Research Scientist at CSIRO's Data61 and as a postdoctoral researcher in CSIRO Health & Biosecurity, where he contributed to projects in medical imaging, robotics, and 3D vision. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the Australian National University (ANU), where his research focused on learning visual recognition models with limited supervision.
His goal is to develop intelligent systems that can understand and reconstruct complex environments from visual data, making advanced computer vision technologies more capable, accessible, and impactful.
