Dr Chris Symons
Faculty of Business & Law,
School of Advertising, Marketing & PR
Biography
Chris is a Lecturer (TIEA) whose research into student engagement and academic identity, as part of a broader Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) focus, informs both her teaching practice and scholarly interests. As a teaching-intensive academic and unit coordinator of large units, she is committed to creating inclusive and meaningful learning experiences for her students, while enabling sessional academics to bring their existing expertise to bear in new contexts. Chris is a qualitative researcher with a keen interest in narrative and discourse analysis, and her research interests extend to the field of career studies, with a particular focus on work transitions. Across both research fields, her work is driven by a commitment to foregrounding marginalised voices. Chris is currently part of a flood risk communication project examining how communities interpret and respond to flood risk information. Prior to joining QUT, she worked across the tertiary and adult education sectors in Western Australia, the Middle East, and the United States.Personal details
