Dr Barbara Zangerl

Biography
Barbara Zangerl is a Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology with a research focus on early diagnosis and management of vulnerable populations, particularly in the context of cognitive changes such as delirium and dementia. With over 25 years of clinical and research experience spanning molecular genetics, clinical trials, and translational medicine, Barbara has previously held academic positions at the University of Pennsylvania (USA) and the University of New South Wales (Australia).Her unique career combines rigorous scientific research with hands-on clinical expertise as a Registered Nurse, enabling her to bridge the gap between evidence-based practice and innovative healthcare solutions. Barbara’s work includes leading and coordinating national and international clinical trials aimed at improving outcomes in eye health, emergency and critical care settings, with a strong emphasis on early intervention strategies and the integration of technology to enhance patient care pathways.
She holds qualifications in nursing with a focus on cardiovascular care, a PhD in Genetics, and is an active member of professional bodies such as the Australian College of Nursing. Her current research seeks to advance nursing education and clinical practice through cutting-edge technology and approaches that improve patient safety and quality of care.
