Biography
Dr Akhilandeshwari (Akhila) Ravichandran is a Lecturer in the School of Mechanical, Medical, and Process Engineering, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. Akhila graduated her Bachelors in Bioengineering from India, followed by a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Her doctoral research focussed on the development and evaluation of mechanical bioreactors for generation of bone tissues from 3D printed, polymer-composite scaffolds and stem cells. The research was done in collaboration with a biomedical company and led to the filing of an international PCT patent application (2021). Akhila continued her biomedical research pursuits in the Centre in Regenerative Medicine group at QUT, Australia from 2018 to 2020. Here, she worked closely with Dr. Nathalie Bock and DProf. Dietmar Hutmacher and conducted interdisciplinary research in the fields of tissue engineering, biomaterials, mechanics, and large animal histology. Since 2021, she has been working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with A/Prof Laura Bray on 3D tissue microenvironment models. Akhila is passionate about engaging with students and has been actively involved in mentoring high school students from Queensland Academies for their research projects. Her current research interests include microvascular engineering, 3D radiobiology models, and breast cancer spatial transcriptomics.
