Industry engagement is central to the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, shaping both our teaching and research and ensuring strong real-world relevance and impact.

Through transformative partnerships, we create a connected ecosystem of education, research, and practice - ensuring our students, staff, and collaborators contribute to meaningful, sustained impact beyond the university.

Transformative partnerships

Work-integrated learning and student placements

Our students engage in extensive work-integrated learning, gaining hands-on experience in clinical, community, and high-performance environments.

Students undertake between 280-700 hours of placement in any of the following settings:

  • hospitals
  • private practice clinics
  • food service settings
  • community health settings
  • sporting organisations
  • high schools
  • health and fitness organisations
  • government organisations.

Research partnerships and translation

We work closely with industry, government, and community partners to co-design and deliver research that addresses real-world challenges in health and performance.

We actively support research training pathways, including opportunities for higher degree research students to undertake industry-engaged projects, internships, and collaborative PhD programs aligned to partner needs.

We have had active engagement in a number of collaborative research projects, bringing together universities, government and industry partners to advance specific initiatives through co-investment arrangements.

Professional and accreditation partnerships

Our programs and research are strongly connected to national professional bodies, ensuring alignment with industry standards and workforce needs.

Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA): the peak body representing accredited exercise professionals in Australia, whose accreditation frameworks underpin our exercise physiology programs and professional pathways.

Dietitians Australia: whose accreditation standards ensure graduates meet the competencies required for Accredited Practising Dietitian status and professional registration.

Our staff and alumni actively engage with these organisations, contributing to professional leadership, accreditation, and workforce development across exercise science, sport, and nutrition.

Partnerships in sport, health and community

We partner widely across sectors to drive innovation and impact and to create career pathways of the future.

Some of our long-term partnerships include:

  • Queensland Health (including Metro North, Metro South)
  • Queensland Academy of Sport
  • National Rugby League
  • Australian Sports Commission
  • Motor Neuron Disease Australia
  • WearOptimo
  • Food Bank
  • Queensland Children’s Hospital Foundation.

In the broader community, our engagement spans healthcare providers, schools, and public health organisations, delivering services, programs, and research that improve outcomes for individuals and populations.
