This includes a growing demand for lawyers and law graduates to think differently about the law, and to develop innovative and creative responses to complex legal problems. This unit introduces students to design thinking, as both a mindset and a methodology, enabling them to respond to legal challenges from an empathic and human-centred perspective. Students will develop a deep understanding of their client(s) problems and needs, identify assumptions and implications, ideate responses using constraints to promote creativity, and prototype and test their ideas. Students will use technology-based tools to engage in online workshops in real-time and they will undertake an in-person 2-day intensive design-sprint working in collaborative teams and with industry to respond to an authentic legal challenge.
