Why doing an exchange at QUT
The first thing that attracted me to Brisbane was its beautiful weather. I also heard wonderful things about QUT from former law exchange students, who described the experience as the highlight of their degree. What really stood out to me, though, was QUT's focus on preparing law students for real-world practice, not just academic exams, which made it even more appealing.
I chose to study in Brisbane because it's a very relaxed city—it's not too metropolitan, which I like. The weather is sunny and hot all year round, which is a bonus. It's also cheaper than the other larger cities in Australia and very close to the beaches at the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, which are great for weekend trips.
Being a student at QUT
My legal research skills have advanced more in a few months at QUT than they did in two years at my home university. The tutors are deeply engaged and passionate about their teaching, which made me more invested in the subjects. The assignments are practical and closely tied to real-life scenarios, making the work both challenging and engaging. This exchange experience has also helped me become more social and open to new experiences—qualities I will carry with me when I return.
Great student support
The law school goes above and beyond to provide students with all the help they need whether that be with research, referencing or just general wellbeing and support. The academic content is more 'real-life' based and this makes it more enjoyable.
Student life
The welcome events were incredibly helpful in helping me settle in, and the friendliness of QUT students made a big difference. They were all very welcoming and supportive. Social football on Thursdays has been another fantastic way to meet new people—it's a fun break from studying and a wonderful way to relax with friends. I’ve also attended a few law society events, which have provided valuable opportunities to network with others in the legal field.
