Why I wanted to do exchange at QUT
I decided to do an exchange semester because I wanted to gain international experience and challenge myself in a new environment. Studying overseas is a great way to grow, develop independence, and gain a deeper understanding of different cultures. I also saw it as an opportunity to broaden my horizons, meet people from diverse backgrounds, and make lifelong friends.
Being a student at QUT
Studying at QUT has been such a positive experience. The learning environment is engaging, and the balance between academic challenges and approachable professors creates a supportive atmosphere for students. QUT also offers great opportunities to meet people from other backgrounds and get involved in an international community.
At QUT, I’ve discovered that education doesn’t have to be stressful or overwhelming—it can be a rewarding journey where students are encouraged to grow. I’ve also learned the importance of creating supportive learning environments that promote collaboration and creativity, a concept I hope to see more of at my home university.
The learning environment at QUT is quite different from what I’ve experienced in Germany. QUT offers a more balanced approach, with continuous assessments across the semester, which makes the learning experience less stressful and more interactive. I’ve found that this structure has reignited my passion for learning and made me more motivated.
Choosing my subjects
I chose business subjects with an international focus, specifically on the Asia-Pacific region, as they are highly relevant to my future career in today’s globalised economy. These topics, not commonly offered in Germany, have allowed me to deepen my knowledge and gain a competitive edge. Studying business in such a dynamic region has been an incredibly enriching experience.
Making new friends
I made most of my friends during Welcome Week, which was an amazing opportunity to connect with fellow students. The events and activities were specifically designed to help new students meet and socialise. After meeting a few new people, it became much easier to expand my circle through their introductions. Living in a student complex was also a huge advantage, with regular social events that made meeting people feel more relaxed and natural. It helped create a supportive community of others going through the same experience of adjusting to a new city and university life.
Living in Brisbane
I chose Brisbane for its unique blend of vibrant city life and natural beauty, all wrapped in a relaxed atmosphere. The warm winters were a bonus.
Some of my favourite spots include the Botanical Gardens, city parks, and the many charming cafes. I particularly enjoy the riverside walk with its stunning views. With events like Brisbane Festival happening throughout the year, the city is always full of excitement and new experiences.
Exploring Australia
After my exchange, I’ll travel around Australia with my mum for two weeks to relax and explore together. Then, I’ll go solo backpacking from Cairns down the coast, an adventure I’ve been excited about. I’ll finish my trip by spending Christmas and New Year's with university friends, a perfect way to end my time here.
