New statistics show that Queensland University of Technology has the highest graduate employment rate of any university in Queensland, as well as being the largest provider of bachelor degree graduates into full-time jobs in Australia.

The most recent figures from the Graduate Careers Council of Australia show that of those available for full-time employment, 87.4 per cent of QUT degree graduates had found full-time employment within a few months of course completion.

The figure compares with a national universities average of 79.7 per cent and a Queensland average of 82.4 per cent for the 2004 survey.

QUT vice-chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake said QUT had long staked its reputation on the relevance of its courses and the employability of its graduates.

"The university's real-world ethos and systematic engagement with industry and the professions provides graduates with a useful blend of theory and experience which appeals to employers," Professor Coaldrake said.

"QUT has a high proportion of first degree students, and we produce substantial numbers of graduates across a wide range of professional areas each year," he said.

"This, combined with QUT's high graduate employment rate, means we have more graduates employed nationwide each year than any other university.

"This is good for Queensland and the nation, good for graduates, and a great source of pride for the university," the vice-chancellor said.
